Coal and mining have played a huge part in the history of our area and have the potential to do so again. But only if we all get behind the new mine and the thousands of new well-paid jobs it will bring!
That’s why I’m fully supportive of the plans for the new Woodhouse Colliery to produce coal for steelmaking and why I’m campaigning hard to make it happen.
The mine will not only create 500 new local jobs directly, but thousands more in the wider supply chain. Crucially it will bring in millions of pounds of private investment to our local area.
This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for West Cumbria. But this is not yet a done deal. These new jobs are under threat as Labour don’t want the mine to happen.
Keir Starmer has called it a backwards step and Ed Miliband said he will leave no stone unturned in seeking to prevent it opening. The Labour council leader joined him in speaking out against it.
The parachuted in non-local Labour candidate will toe the party line and doesn’t support the mine.
Labour won’t back the mine and they just don’t care about West Cumbria.
Only the Conservatives are backing the mine and the new jobs it will bring to this great area.
